A good night starts before you arrive. Two or three right songs before leaving help you choose better, dance with more ear and do less damage with enthusiasm.

How to use this guide
Pick the genre that calls you, hear one slow song, one familiar song and one longer arrangement. Then decide whether you want a social, dance hall, concert or class.
Salsa
Start with Ruben Blades, Hector Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Willie Colon and Grupo Niche. Listen for the chorus and the moment the orchestra opens space for mambo.
Bachata
Juan Luis Guerra opens the door elegantly, Anthony Santos and Frank Reyes teach amargue, Aventura and Romeo Santos explain why modern bachata filled huge floors.
Cumbia
Andres Landero, Aniceto Molina, Celso Pina and Los Angeles Azules offer different paths: accordion, barrio, sonidero, family party and popular floor.
